Server-based tracking, also known as Postback URL tracking or S2S (Server-to-Server) tracking, is a method of tracking conversions without relying on cookies or browser data. Instead, all tracking information is stored and communicated directly between servers.
User clicks an affiliate link
When someone clicks your affiliate link, a unique Click ID is generated and stored securely on Involve Asia’s server.
User completes an action
If the user makes a purchase or completes a conversion, the advertiser’s server recognizes the Click ID.
Postback notification is sent
The advertiser’s server sends a postback URL request back to Involve Asia’s server with the conversion details.
Conversion is recorded
The system matches the Click ID to the publisher and attributes the conversion directly in the dashboard.
More accurate than cookie tracking – Not affected by users clearing cookies, switching devices, or using browsers with cookie restrictions.
Secure & reliable – Data is exchanged at the server level, reducing fraud and tracking loss.
Better for mobile & cross-device tracking – Works seamlessly across apps, iOS, and Android where cookies may not function properly.
Faster validation – Provides precise conversion data for reporting and payouts.
Feature | Client-Based Tracking (Cookie/Pixel) | Server-Based Tracking (Postback/S2S) |
---|---|---|
Tracking Method | Uses browser cookies & pixels | Uses Click IDs stored on servers |
Accuracy | Can be affected by ad blockers, cookie deletion, or browser limits | Highly accurate, not dependent on browser |
Best For | Web-based offers | Mobile apps, cross-device, high-value offers |
Security | Moderate | High – harder to manipulate |
Implementation | Easier to set up | Requires technical setup with postback URL |
As privacy regulations and browser restrictions tighten, server-based tracking is becoming the preferred standard in affiliate marketing. It ensures your conversions are accurately tracked, so you never miss out on commissions.
